Roundtable on ‘Rethinking Hope and Imagination’

On 20 February, I participated at the roundtable on ‘Rethinking Hope and Imagination’, part of the ‘Rethinking’ series organised by the Interdisciplinary Network on Remaking Places.

The network aims to support and engage with place-based coalitions to develop transformative solutions that can tackle the emergencies of our time, and simply create better lives. My intervention was based on my Journal of Politics article “Disappointed Hope: Reimagining Resistance in the Wake of the Egyptian Revolution”.

The discussion addressed the link between hope and different artistic practices, the relationship between individual and collective hope, the positionality of hope, and the question of whether hope can be taught. Many thanks everyone for your insightful questions and comments!
